
Mika Kares- Bass
The young Finnish bass, already hailed as one of the most interesting young
singers internationally, has studied at the Sibelius-Academy with professor
Roland Hermann. He was a member of the ensemble of Baden State Opera from 2005
until the end of the season 2010. In particular, Mr. Kares has made a name for
himself as a Verdi, Wagner and Händel singer. Guest appearences have taken him
to Seattle, Hong Kong, Salzburg, Rome and Valencia where he has worked with such
great conductors as Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta and Marc Minkowski, among others.
His repertoire include roles such as Attila (Verdi: Attila), Filippo II (Verdi: Don Carlo), Ramfis (Verdi: Aida), Fasolt, Hunding and
Fafner (Wagner: Des Ring der
Nibelungen), Landgraf (Wagner: Tannhäuser), Figaro (Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro), Raimondo
(Donizetti: Lucia di Lammermoor)
among many others. Mika Kares holds a
Wagner scholarship 2010, was awarded "Der Goldene Fächer" as the best singer of
the Baden State Opera 2009 and Savonlinna opera festival´s Artist of the Year
2008.
Currently engaged as König Heinrich
in Lohengrin at the
Savonlinna Opera Festival, Mr. Kares
